Unlocked Avon Vehicles Targeted By Thieves: Police
The Avon PD this week issued an alert that reports of vehicles being burglarized are on the upswing locally.

AVON, CT — Local police are warning residents to lock their car doors as there has been a recent spate of reports indicating unlocked vehicles are being entered and burglarized in town.
Over the past few weeks, the Avon Police Department said it has seen an increase in incidents involving unlocked vehicles being entered.
This, according to police, has resulted in stolen items and, in some cases, stolen vehicles.

"These incidents have occurred primarily in the Farmington Woods area at this time, and our officers are actively investigating each case," wrote the Avon Police Department on Thursday.
"We’d like to remind everyone to please lock your vehicles and remove valuables, no matter where you live, or are parked in town. A simple step can go a long way in preventing crime," wrote the APD.

Police recommend a nightly routine by 9 p.m. to keep valuables safe:
• Bring in valuables from your car, yard, and patio..
• Lock up cars, doors, and garages.
• Turn on exterior lights, security cameras, and alarm systems.
