Berlin HS Still In Delerium Over Football Championship

BERLIN, CT — It's been a few days since Berlin High School won the CIAC Class M state football championship, but the celebrations are continuing.

Berlin High School on Tuesday posted several photographs of the school's championship game last Saturday, one that ended with a 20-15 win over Brookfield High School.

Of course, the play everyone is talking about is senior Eli Rice's clutch kickoff return touchdown that was the margin of victory, a title won in the game's final seconds.

Similar to the impact of Doug Flutie's 1984 Hail Mary pass for Boston College against Miami, Rice's mad dash to glory will be talked about in Berlin circles in perpetuity.

Others compared it to the 2000 'Music City Miracle,' another kickoff return for a touchdown that kept the Tennessee Titans alive in the playoffs and kickstarted a march to a Super Bowl title.

Rice's scamper has spawned a week of delirium, with BHS still basking in the afterglow days after the win, which took place at Central Connecticut State University's Arute Field in New Britain.

"No amount of posts can express how proud we are of our players and coaches alike," wrote BHS on its Facebook page, along with several images of the day's game. "For the second time in school history, YOUR Berlin Redcoats are STATE CHAMPS."

In another post, BHS offered up even more pictures, calling it "proof it really happened."

The game has been the talk of the town.

Wrote BHS: "Berlin showed up, the Redcoats delivered."
