Berlin Man Killed In Wrong-Way Crash On I-84 In Plainville: PD

State Police said the crash occurred Wednesday afternoon and one person was killed.

PLAINVILLE, CT — In less than a month, seven Connecticut residents have been killed in three wrong-way fatal crashes.

State Police said Walter Turner, 43, of Spruce Brook Road in Berlin, died in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 84 westbound, east of Exit 33 in Plainville on Wednesday afternoon. State Police said a vehicle was traveling on I-84 in the left lane of three.

Turner was traveling the wrong-way on I-84, traveling east in the westbound lanes, also in the left lane, State Police said in a news release.

Turner's 2006 Ford Focus "struck Vehicle 1 head-on," State Police said in an accident summary. "Vehicle 1 came to uncontrolled final rest in the left and center lane, prior to Exit 33. Vehicle 2 came to uncontrolled final rest across the left shoulder and left lane of the highway. Operator 1 was transported to New Britain Hospital for the treatment of possible minor injuries. Operator 2 (Turner) sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision and was pronounced deceased on scene."

Both vehicles were towed due to damage. This case remains under investigation. Furthermore, if you have a vehicle equipped with a dashcam, and you were driving through the area at the time of the collision, you are also asked to contact TPR Dean, State Police said.

In late February, four people were killed in a wrong-way crash in Hartford on I-84. And also in late February, two people were killed in a wrong-way crash in Meriden.
