Electric Vehicle Charging Station in Bethel by April 2014

Bethel was awarded a $6,339 grant from Gov. Dannel Malloy’s Office and the CT Electric Vehicle Charging Station Reimbursement Program to build an electric vehicle (EV) charging station in town.

In order to receive the reimbursement payment, the charging station will have to be operational by April 1, 2014.

The Reimbursement Program’s ultimate goal is to have a publicly-accessible charging station within a 15-minute radius of any point in Connecticut, according to the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), which administers the program.

Bethel’s station, when built, will help “to alleviate one of the greatest barriers to the widespread introduction of EVs: fear of running low on power and being unable to recharge before completing a trip,” DEEP Commissioner Daniel Esty said.
