Branford Fire Working Active But 'Under Control,' Propane Leak In Stony Creek

BRANFORD, CT — Update: "We are under control, units beginning to demobilize," Branford Fire Department Chief Thomas Mahoney told Patch.

Late Friday morning, Branford Fire Department units were dispatched to Wallace Road in the Stony Creek area for a report of an active propane leak, according to a news release from the department.

When firefighters arrived to the around 10:47 a.m. call, they found a "significant leak caused when a construction machine accidentally sheared off a valve on a propane tank," officials said.
The house is unoccupied, fire officials said.

As of around 12:30 p.m. Friday, the Department noted: "Branford fire personnel are operating on scene with the Propane Contractor Amodio and Sons, the New Haven Area Special Hazards Team East Division and the Guilford Fire Department. "NASH Hazardous Material Technicians are actively working to secure and stop the leak," the department noted on Facebook.
"Firefighters have secured all nearby ignition sources and deployed hose lines as a precaution," officials said. "Metering of surrounding homes indicates no immediate danger, and no evacuations are necessary at this time. The situation remains under control, and updates will be provided if conditions change."
Fire officials said that there are no reported injuries.
