Branford Schools Elementary Education Director Named By Ed Board

Lisa Hernandez Corcoran comes to Branford after a post as Director of English Language Arts and Humanities for Groton (CT) Public Schools

BRANFORD, CT — The Branford Board of Education recently announced the appointment of Lisa Hernandez Corcoran as Director of Elementary Education for the Branford Public Schools.

Corcoran’s career spans over two decades with experiences as an elementary classroom teacher, literacy curriculum specialist and literacy consultant.

Currently, Corcoran is the Director of English Language Arts and Humanities for Groton Public Schools. She has "many talents as a curriculum leader, most notably in the area of elementary literacy," a news release from the Branford school district reads. "Her strong background as a professional development provider, coupled with her understanding of reading and writing pedagogy, perfectly align with the district’s need to support teachers and students in response to new state legislation regarding the science of reading."

Corcoran is a published author, well established leader and "will be an incredibly collaborative member of the BPS leadership team."

"I am truly honored to be chosen as the Director of Elementary Education for Branford Public Schools," Corcoran was quoted as saying. "I look forward to working with staff, students, and caregivers to ensure the academic success of each and every child in our community."

Corcoran earned her Bachelors degree in elementary education with a concentration in Spanish, and a Master’s Degree in reading and language arts from Central Connecticut State University. She pursued additional graduate study at the University of New England and earned administrative certification from Sacred Heart University.

"Lisa’s expertise in elementary education is evident in every conversation, and her passion and love of reading will contribute positively to building a stronger culture of teaching and learning across our community.”
