Branford Water Main Break Leaves Many Homes Without Water

Residents could be without water for some four to six hours. That time estimate, however, could change in either direction after work crews actually reach the pipe and properly assess the damage.

Numerous Branford homes in the Thimble Island Road area could be without water for much of the day today after a water main break there occurred sometime overnight.

"They are still pumping water away from the break, so we don’t know exactly what we’re dealing with yet," Kate Powell, the spokesperson for the Southcentral Connecticut Regional Water Authority told Branford Patch a short time ago.

She said the repairs could take some four to six hours, but added that that time estimate could change in either direction once the crew actually reaches the pipe to properly assess and then repair the damage.

Known Problem Area

Powell said company officials were already aware there was a problem with that portion of the main, a section of the pipe just north of Thimble Island Road near Ridge Road — and a crew was actually working on it yesterday.

"And last night, at some point, it become a whole late worse," she said.

Discolored Water, Low Pressure

Powell noted that residents in the area who do have water may find some discoloration due to sediments in the bottom of the pipe being stirred up.

In addition, customers who regularly have low water pressure may find today that they do not have any running water at all.
