Hours after Branford police warned about a rash of thefts from commercial mailboxes, the Guilford police said its happening in Guilford, too

GUILFORD, CT - A few hours after Branford police posted a warning on social media about a rash of thefts from commercial mailboxes in town, the Guilford police warn the same thing is happening in their town.
On social media, Guilford police say:
“Over the last few days we have received numerous reports of mail theft from commercial business mailboxes in the 2500 block of Boston Post Rd.

“The postal inspector is investigating the mail theft but we wanted to make the public aware that this can and does happen.
‘It is important to note that you should not mail items from your personal mailbox, as the flag raised is like the Bat Signal for criminals. They know that people often mail out checks for bills and letters with gift cards for birthdays and holidays. If you need to mail a check or something of value, it is always safer to go to the USPS mailboxes placed around town or at the post office.

“It is also recommended to invest in a locking mailbox so that only the ones with keys have access.
“In the meantime, try to collect your mail shortly after delivery. The postal employees are on the lookout for these thieves, but we encourage everyone to keep an eye out for anyone acting suspiciously or for any suspicious vehicles.
