Lawrence Carfora (NHPD, ret.) obituary: Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home, East Haven

Lawrence John Carfora (NHPD, ret.) 83 of New Haven passed away unexpectedly on July 16, 2025 at Yale New Haven Hospital. He was born February 21, 1942 in New Haven to Salvatore and Mary (Guistinello) Carfora. Lawrence is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Marie (Violano) Carfora, their son, Justin Carfora (Julie) of Branford and four grandchildren; Jace Jeffrey Carfora, Maria Sharon Grace Carfora, Gianna Albano and Joseph Maillet. Lawrence is also survived by his sister, MaryAnn Massaro of Guilford and a brother, Salvatore Carfora (Michelle) of East Haven along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Lawrence is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved son, Jeffrey Carfora (Leslie Albano) and a brother, Frances Carfora.

Up to his death, Larry worked daily with his sister and brother at the family business East Shore Glass. After work every day, Larry would then head to Durso’s Garage, where he would visit his buddies and solve the problems of the world and also have lots of laughs. Another of Larry‘s favorite pastimes was making wine with his buddy Vinny.

The love of Larry‘s life was his wife of 54 years Marie, whom he adored. Together, they faced and weathered many of life’s challenges. They enjoyed many vacations with family to their favorite place, Aruba, where he could be found at the ocean’s edge basking in the sun. They also found much happiness in their second home in Naples, Florida. He enjoyed daily bike rides, the pool, and a great dish of oysters with his friends.

Family was most important to Larry. He loved taking his beloved sons Jeff and Justin skiing. He loved the traditions our family practiced for each of the holidays. He treasured the time he had with his Grandchildren, who were the love of his life. Larry was also a “second father” to many and he was loved and respected by all. His heart was so big and he was always ready to help out anyone in need. His faith in God was unmatched and he never missed attending church every week. May we all learn from his life lessons and try to be more like him.
