Michael Woods Named Athletic Director For Branford Public Schools
Woods brings with him 24 years of experience as a central office administrator, principal, assistant principal and teacher.

BRANFORD, CT — Michael Woods has been named Branford schools Athletic Director, the Board of Education announced. Woods brings with him 24 years of experience as a central office administrator, principal, assistant principal and teacher.
As an educational leader he has served the public schools in New Canaan, Madison and most recently Cheshire where he worked for 10 years as principal of Dodd Middle School. And, most recently as the Assistant Director of Operations and Community Engagement. Woods is a collaborative leader who is relationship-oriented and driven. With an impressive resume in administration, he has significant experience in program development and addressing the social and emotional learning needs of students. As a student athlete and coach, Woods knows the important role sports play in the lives of students. His experiences on and off the field uniquely position him to create a cohesive vision for our athletic department that will guide Branford for years to come.

The interview process revealed the passion and excitement that exists for the student athletes of Branford," Woods said. "I am excited to lead the athletics program to support our student athletes and provide a winning environment that builds lifelong skills for our future leaders. Woods earned a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Master of Teaching at Quinnipiac University. His further studies at Sacred Heart University led to a sixth year degree and certification as a Connecticut administrator. Additionally, he has expertise in student safety with specialization in ALICE and reunification planning.
"Mike’s communication skills, varied experiences, and down-to- earth nature are a perfect balance of what the district needs to move programming to the next level," Superintendent Christopher Tranberg said. "Mike will be a tremendous asset to the larger leadership team given his wide range of talents and experiences. It is clear that athletics have had a profound impact on Mike’s life and I am confident he will make contributions to Branford that will do the same for our students.”
