Sailboat Runs Aground On Taunton Rock Off Harbor, BFD Rescue Responds

After a witness on Sunset Beach summoned help, the fire department's Marine, Rescue & Drone teams went to the aid of the 30-foot craft.

BRANFORD, CT — Run aground on Taunton Rock, the operator of a 30-foot sailboat refused medical attention after the Branford Fire Department's two marine rescue teams, its Rescue 2 team and drone team responded at around 8 p.m. Tuesday after receiving a call from a witness on shore at Sunset Beach.

According to Fire Chief Tom Mahoney, the owner, and the only person aboard the craft, had called "BoatUS" to tow the vessel off the rock outside Branford Harbor.

Marine 2 and Marine 5 along with Rescue 2 with the Drone team responded, Mahoney said.

"The sole occupant refused medical attention," it was noted.

"The drone has proven to be a valuable asset, providing the incident commander with real time information, " Mahoney told Patch. He noted that the fire department has six FAA-licensed drone operators.
