Support 'Mullets For Mutts' At The Stony Creek Brewery On Oct. 16

Branford Professional Firefighters are raising money for the Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter, which is undergoing an expansion.

BRANFORD, CT — Next weekend, Branford residents can grab a drink at the Stony Creek Brewery while supporting a cause – Mullets for Mutts will be hosting a fundraiser at the brewery on Saturday, Oct. 16 from 1 to 7 p.m.

Mullets for Mutts, a fundraiser for the Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter, was founded in August by a group of Branford Professional Firefighters Local 2533. The firefighters grew mullets to raise funds for – and awareness of – the animal shelter, which is set to undergo an expansion.

The shelter will expand its capacity for dogs, cats and other critters and will construct a walking trail for the animals, fundraiser organizers said in a news release. Renovations will begin the third week of June.

"The shelter was established in 2003 and is in desperate need of renovation," organizers said. "They will be completely gutting the existing building and adding a significant addition, which will double the size of the facility and they will be adding trails to take the dogs on walks."

Renovations will begin the third week of June and are expected to be completed by early summer 2022.

Anyone who would like to support the fundraiser can go to the brewery (located at 5 Indian Neck Ave.) the afternoon of Oct. 16.

Those who can't make it that day can still donate, though: Firefighters have set up a donation portal here, and the public can also Venmo a donation to @MulletsforMutts.

The firefighters are hoping to raise $5,000 for the shelter's renovations, according to the fundraiser website. So far they have raised $1,100.
