Armed Man Shot And Killed In Police-Involved Shooting In Bridgeport
The Monday evening incident is under investigation by the state Office of the Inspector General.
BRIDGEPORT, CT — An armed suspect was shot and killed by a Bridgeport police officer Monday evening, and the state Office of the Inspector General has launched an investigation into the incident, according to authorities.
No other injuries were reported in the incident, which began just before 6 p.m. when Bridgeport police received reports of a large street fight on the 1600 block of East Main Street. Witnesses told police that individuals involved in the altercation may have been armed.
A short time later, officers spotted a suspect vehicle near the intersection of Kossuth Street and Beecher Street and attempted a felony traffic stop. One individual exited the vehicle and fled on foot, leading at least one officer on a chase along Kossuth Street. The pursuit ended in a driveway on the 1400 block of Kossuth Street, where the officer shot the suspect. A firearm was recovered at the scene.

The suspect was transported to Bridgeport Hospital, where he underwent surgery but was pronounced dead later that evening.
Police have not released the names of the suspect or the officer who shot him. The officer(s) involved have been placed on modified duty in accordance with department policy, pending the outcome of the investigation.

"Any loss of life is a tragedy, and we extend our condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased," said Bridgeport Police Chief Roderick Porter in a statement.
Under Connecticut law, police-involved shootings require an independent investigation. The Office of the Inspector General is being assisted in the inquiry by the Connecticut State Police Western District Major Crime Squad.
Porter expressed confidence in the investigative process, emphasizing the importance of a transparent and impartial review.
