Bridgeport 2024 Primary Elections: What You Need To Know
Connecticut has a primary election scheduled for Aug. 13.
BRIDGEPORT, CT — The main election is set for Nov. 5, but there are primary races to settle in Connecticut on Aug. 13, including some contests in Bridgeport.
Winners of Connecticut's Aug. 13 primary races will advance to become their party's banner bearer in the general election.
In Bridgeport, registered Democrats can vote in two state Senate races, and one state Representative race.

For state Senator in the 22nd District, the Democratic candidates are:
- Scott Burns
- William A. Finch
- Tyler Mack
- Sujata Gadkar-Wilcox
In the state Senate's 23rd District, the candidates are:

- Herron Gaston (Democratic Party endorsed)
- Ernest E. Newton, II
For state Representative in the 124th District, the candidates are:
- Eneida Martinez (Democratic Party endorsed)
- Andre Baker, Jr.
Residents who are registered Republicans may vote for one of two candidates to challenge incumbent Democrat Sen. Chris Murphy for a seat in the U.S. Senate. Gerry Smith, the first selectman of Beacon Falls, is running against Manchester native, businessman and Navy veteran Matthew Corey.
In the second GOP primary race, Republicans will choose between physician Michael Goldstein of Greenwich and Fairfield finance executive Bob MacGuffie. Both men seek to challenge incumbent Democrat Rep. Jim Himes to represent Bridgeport and Connecticut's 4th District in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Absentee ballots are available online here. Voters can also pick them up at the Bridgeport Town Clerk's Office Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. until Aug. 12 at 4:30 p.m.
August 2 is the earliest deadline, and affects unaffiliated voters seeking to vote during the early voting period before the primary — Aug. 5 to Aug. 11 — to file a party enrollment application.
August 12 is the deadline for issuing absentee ballots, outside of special exceptions for those overseas or ill.

On Aug. 13, polls will be open 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
