Power Largely Restored In Bridgeport: United Illuminating

Friday's storm knocked out power to thousands throughout the state.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — More than 2,000 United Illuminating customers in Bridgeport were without power at one point on Friday, following the wind and rainstorm that swept through the state, but power had mostly been restored by the afternoon, according to the utility company.

Thousands lost power in Connecticut on Friday, and in Bridgeport, that number had dropped to only a few hundred by 3:30 p.m. The University of Bridgeport was reportedly among the UI customers impacted by the power outage.

Earlier in the day, the demolition of a building in the city knocked out power to customers in the Gregory Street/Myrtle Avenue area, after parts of the structure took down some wires, according to city officials.
