Baby Spider Monkey Born At Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo In Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT, CT — A black-handed spider monkey was born this week at Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport, just in time for the holidays. Click here to view photos on the zoo's Facebook page.

"One of our spider monkeys has welcomed a new baby, and guests may already spot this tiny newcomer clinging close as mom moves through her habitat," officials said in a statement. No word yet on the animal's name.

The baby monkey was born on Thursday, and while the animal is a joyful addition, the first few weeks of life are especially delicate and can be unpredictable, according to the facility.

"We kindly ask that guests help create a calm and respectful environment by keeping voices low and giving mom and baby quiet time as you visit," officials said. "Thank you for helping us support this special moment and for being thoughtful zoo guests this holiday season."
