Bridgeport Sees Increases In State Grants In Lamont's Proposed Budget

The city would see an increase in education and other grants from the state under the governor's proposed two-year spending plan.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — Bridgeport is looking at an increase in the education grants it receives from the state, under Gov. Ned Lamont's proposed two-year budget. Additionally, the city will also see an increase in municipal-specific grants.

The city is estimated to receive $201,710,496 in education grants from the state for Fiscal Year 2025, and that amount would rise to $212,128,451 in Fiscal Year 2026. For FY 2027, it would remain the same at $212,128,451, under the proposal.

Overall, the governor is proposing about $160 million more in funding for education grants throughout the state.

Lamont's proposed two-year budget is $55.2 billion, or $27 billion in FY 2026 and $28.2 billion the following year.

In addition to education grants, the state also gives grants to municipalities to help make up for non-taxable properties, such as schools and churches.

Under this grant program, Bridgeport will again see an increase in Lamont's spending plan.

Bridgeport is estimated to receive $254,886,591 in municipal-specific grants in FY 2025, and it would increase to $264,780,762 in FY 2026. That figure would remain FY 2027 at $264,780,762.
