Bridgeport Shooting: One Dead, Three Officers Injured

Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting on Park Avenue Tuesday afternoon.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — One person is dead, another seriously injured and two police officers were hospitalized after a shooting on Park Avenue in Bridgeport Tuesday afternoon, according to Connecticut State Police. Police say that officers tried to stop a stolen vehicle on Park Avenue at around 5 p.m., and the driver sped off in the wrong direction on Fairfield Avenue and hitting several vehicles along Fairfield Avenue.

Once the driver stopped and officers approached, the vehicle reversed and collided with a Bridgeport officer. Police say a second officer fired one round, striking both the driver and the passenger who was identified as Julian Fyffe, 21, of Bridgeport. Police say the driver was pronounced dead at the scene, and his identity will be released pending positive identification. Fyffe was transported with non-life threatening injuries.

The Connecticut Post citing a Bridgeport Police Department source, reported that three officers suffered unspecified injuries and were transported to the hospital. State police say the identities of the Bridgeport officers are being withheld at this time.
