Gadkar-Wilcox, Gaston Win Primaries To Represent Bridgeport

Sujata Gadkar-Wilcox and Herron Gaston reportedly won their Democratic races for the state's 22nd and 23 Senate Districts, respectively.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — Democrats Sujata Gadkar-Wilcox and Herron Gaston reportedly won their respective primaries Tuesday in the state's 22nd and 23rd Senate Districts, according to unofficial tallies from the Secretary of State's Office and the Connecticut Post.

Gadkar-Wilcox, an associate professor of legal studies at Quinnipiac University, defeated Scott Burns, former Bridgeport Mayor William A. Finch, and Tyler Mack.

She will next face Republican Chris Carrena of Trumbull for the 22nd Senate District post, which was vacated by Marilyn Moore upon her retirement.

In the 23rd Senate District, Gaston, a pastor and the incumbent state Senator, was comfortably ahead of challenger Ernest E. Newton, II, not long after the polls had closed, according to the Post. The Secretary of State's Office backed up those sentiments with unofficial results in Gaston's favor.

Currently, Gaston does not appear to have a Republican challenger; Michael Garrett, who lost to Gaston two years ago, terminated his political committee, according to the state Elections Enforcement Commission.

Also in Bridgeport, Democratic incumbent Andre Baker, Jr. narrowly defeated party-endorsed challenger Eneida Martinez in the state's 124th House District, according to unofficial results from the Secretary of State's Office.

The Post also reported that Baker had declared victory Tuesday night. He will face Republican Yoshiyahv Yisrael.
