Maria Pereira Captures Democratic Council Seat Primary In Bridgeport

Pereira received the most votes in Tuesday's primary for the 138th City Council District, according to unofficial results.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — Incumbent City Council member Maria Pereira narrowly won Tuesday's Democratic primary Tuesday in Bridgeport's 138th District, according to unofficial results from the Secretary of State's Office.

Pereira, a sometimes controversial official in Bridgeport, garnered 340 votes, one more than second-place finisher Keyla Medina, who received 339 votes.

Samia Suliman, who is finishing out the term of Jazmarie Melendez who resigned earlier this year, garnered 314 votes, followed by Kevin Monks, who received 303 votes.

Monks and Suliman were endorsed by the local Democratic Party.
