Bridgeport Public Schools & New York Giants Announce Sports Initiative
The initiative kicks off in June at Seaside Park in Bridgeport.
BRIDGEPORT, CT — Bridgeport Public Schools is teaming up with the New York Giants to launch a new girls flag football initiative, beginning with the inaugural 2025 Girls Flag Football Jamboree this summer.
Scheduled for Sunday, June 8, at Seaside Park, the event will introduce girls ages 13 to 18 to the sport in a non-contact, inclusive environment. The free event is open to participants across the region, with registration encouraged ahead of time. Uniforms will be provided to all players.
The event marks the beginning of a broader effort to expand opportunities for girls in sports, backed by the Giants, a four-time Super Bowl-winning franchise.
“We’re not just hosting a tournament. We’re setting a new standard,” said Paul Catuccio, Athletic Director for Bridgeport Public Schools. “With the support of one of the NFL’s most storied franchises, and the energy of our students behind us, June 8 will be a milestone for girls’ athletics in Bridgeport.”
Dr. Royce Avery, interim superintendent of Bridgeport Public Schools, described the initiative as a “transformational moment” for the city and its students. “By bringing this nationally supported program to one of Bridgeport’s most iconic spaces, we’re creating new possibilities for our young women to lead, grow and thrive—on and off the field,” Avery said.
The event is being held in partnership with Northeast Flag Football and is part of a national push to increase athletic opportunities for girls and promote gender equity in sports. Organizers say support from professional organizations such as the Giants is instrumental in growing the program.
Seaside Park, the 375-acre venue for the event, is a prominent local landmark known for its oceanfront views, recreational fields, and historic lighthouse.
Bridgeport Public Schools thanked the New York Giants, Northeast Flag Football, and community supporters for helping bring the program to local youth.
