University of Bridgeport today announced that it received five exceptional accreditations for its academic programs. Two programs have been recognized by agencies for the first time: the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) commission has accredited the University’s Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering (BS MEEG) and the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) has accredited its Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program in education and leadership.

“ABET accreditation is the gold standard for university engineering programs" said Dr. Danielle Wilken, University of Bridgeport President, “and the accreditation of the MSN program is a major milestone for the University. These designations highlight University of Bridgeport’s commitment to meeting its high academic standards, shining a spotlight on the programs’ leadership and accomplished faculty. While the news of these accreditations is outstanding, it's the positive commentary by the accreditation agencies of which I'm most proud.”
Two additional majors in the School of Engineering also received re-accreditation, including Computer Engineering (BS CPEG) and Electrical Engineering (BS ELEG). The School of Engineering has been accredited by ABET since 1989.

“It is an exceptional result,” said Dr. Khaled Elleithy, Dean of the College of Engineering, Business and Education, “especially considering all the challenges we faced during the pandemic and transition. The accreditation conveys that our program has been thoroughly and methodically evaluated, which is especially important to our graduates who are not only prepared to enter the workforce, but to also succeed.”
In addition to the School of Nursing MSN program accreditation, the Bachelor’s degree (BSN) program was reaccredited, which includes the Accelerated Bachelor’s in Nursing (ABSN) and RN-to-BSN program.
“Earning accreditation is a rigorous process and is an affirmation of both programs’ quality and excellence in education,” said Dr. Linda D. Wagner, MSN, RN, EdD, Director, School of Nursing. “Our students graduate with the confidence and credentials to impact the healthcare industry, and that is a credit to our faculty who consistently provide a high-quality nursing education. This designation builds on an already strong program but is also important for the direction that nursing will take in the future.”
“These accreditations are a testament to the leadership in the engineering and nursing programs,” said Dr. Manyul Im, University of Bridgeport Provost. “Our faculty and staff work tirelessly to make this happen and validates a commitment to excellence with both schools.”
The accreditations come at a time when the University recently announced a 30% increase in enrollment.
