Canton To Host Earth Day Ceremony To Honor Fallen DPW Chief

The town will plant a tree in honor of the Avon resident, who died last November.

CANTON, CT — Local dignitaries and community members are expected to come out on Earth Day on Tuesday, April 22, to honor Canton's longtime public works chief who died last fall.

The Town of Canton will plant a tree on Tuesday, April 22, at 11 a.m. at the Canton Public Works Department at 50 River Road, Collinsville.

It will be planted in honor of Robert J. Martin, 66, who was Canton's public works director from 2010-24 before his passing last Nov. 30 from complications from leukemia.

Before that, the Avon resident served his hometown's DPW for 24 years.

The Earth Day event will remember Martin's legacy, with the town planting a Serviceberry Tree in his honor.
