CANTON, CT — Christmas is over, and what to do with the tree is now the top priority rather than what will go under it.
Canton officials recently informed residents about what they can do to properly dispose of their natural Christmas trees this year.

The Canton Department of Public Works will pick up residents' Christmas trees this holiday season free of charge.
All residents have to do is place their tree near the public road no later than Jan. 11, 2026.

"All ornaments and tinsel must be removed before leaving the tree for pickup," wrote the town in an announcement.
The DPW will begin collection on Jan. 12, 2026, weather permitting.
In addition, there is no charge to town residents who bring their Christmas Tree to the transfer station through the end of January.
