Canton Police Cruiser Slammed By Vehicle In Construction Zone: Police
The cruiser was providing security for a work crew on a busy section of Canton roadway Tuesday morning.

CANTON, CT — Local police said Tuesday that a Canton Police Department cruiser was hit by another vehicle in a construction zone, with the officer inside sustaining minor injuries.
According to the Canton PD, the incident happened in the morning when a stationary police vehicle was struck at a construction site on Albany Turnpike.
Police said the vehicle was traveling eastbound when it the the cruiser.

The motorist that hit the CPD vehicle also had "minor injuries," police said.
"At the time of this incident, the Canton cruiser was protecting a utility crew in the right lane on Albany Turnpike with its emergency lights activated and was parked within a cone pattern accompanied by clearly visible signs," police wrote in a statement Tuesday afternoon.

According to the CPD, speed may have played a factor in the crash.
Police used this incident to further urge motorists to exercise extreme caution around construction sites and give police and construction workers room to do their jobs.
Motorists should always reduce their speed and move over one lane, police said.
In addition, they, simply, need to pay attention to the road ahead, according to the CPD.
"When operating a vehicle, please AVOID DISTRACTIONS and focus your attention on the roadway ahead," wrote the CPD.
