Canton Senior Center Hosts Summer Ice Cream Wednesdays
Wednesdays got a little sweeter and healthier for Canton seniors.
Canton seniors are staying chill at Wednesday lunches at the senior center. Last summer, an ice cream tuck arrived weekly and was an enormous hit so the Canton Commission on Aging made sure it could happen again this year and decided to sponsor the truck. The mobile merchant rolls in weekly on Wednesdays -- one of two days lunch is served from noon to 1:00 pm -- and will continue to do so through the end of the summer. All seniors who purchase a Wednesday lunch receive a voucher for a free frozen treat but anyone is welcome and can purchase an ice cream treat without a lunch.
Helping to balance out the indulgence of ice cream, the Canton Senior Center also hosts the Applegate Farm Store on the first Wednesday of each month now through October. The mini farm stand is set up in the lunch area and allows the seniors β or anyone who is passing through -- pick up an array of locally sourced fruit, vegetables and baked goods.
The Canton Senior Centerβs lunches take place in their βCanton CafΓ©β area and are held Wednesdays and Fridays from noon to 12:45 at the Canton Senior Center, 40 Dyer Avenue (the lower level of the Canton Community Center and Library, in Canton CT. The cost is $5 for meals prepared by local eateries Dish N Dat and Little Oak CafΓ©.
