Canton Senior Center Launches New Coffee Corner
Canton Commission on Aging adds coffee to the new senior center lounge
The newly refurbished senior lounge in Canton has everything to make it cozy: comfy chairs, games, activities and even a faux fireplace. But the Canton Commission on Aging (COA) thought it would all go better with a cup of coffee. On September 3, the Commission invited seniors to celebrate the opening of the senior center Coffee Corner. The Coffee Corner is now open for seniors every day. The coffee is free, but donations are appreciated to help make the program sustainable.
In addition, Canton seniors are invited to join the Commission on Aging the first Tuesday every month for coffee and a chance to socialize. βWe hope it will be a way to meet new people and learn from each other what successful aging looks like,β commented Heather Gillette, chair of the Commission on Aging in Canton. βOur Department of Senior and Social Services did a fantastic job of creating a welcoming space for seniors. We hope more people will come for activities, or just hang out with a cup of coffee. Already at our first event, we heard some excellent ideas and suggestions.β
The βCoffee with the Commissionβ events will continue on first Tuesdays: October 1, November 4 and December 2 from 11:00 AM to noon. The Commission also serves a few baked goods along with the coffee. All seniors are welcome.
