Canton's Young Education Leaders Provide Valuable School Board Input
The Canton Board of Education has a trio of ex officio teen representatives to the board, offering students' perspectives on education.

CANTON, CT — One of the more unique aspects of many school boards is the fact that those served by the board are also represented by young ex officio members.
For the Canton Board of Education during the 2024-25 school year, that list includes three Canton High School students.
The trio regularly attends school board meetings and offers updates on the school system, especialy CHS, affairs.

Those serving this year are: Lucas Mainville, a junior; Maggie Bishop, a senior; and Juliana Cavanaugh, who is also a senior.
But Canton's student representatives do more than just say a few words at each meeting.

They are producers of a regular video series that is uploaded to the school system's website via YouTube.
Called "Students at the Center," the series not only provides a glimpse of what's going on at Canton schools, it provides the public with a glimpse of what student school board members are up to.
The Canton Board of Education meets monthly for regular meetings, not including special meetings, with the students attending the regular meetings to update officials.
While the student members, who are not elected, don't have a vote, they do have access to provide the board of education with valuable input from a student perspective.
