Before, children who turned 5 by Dec. 31 were eligible to enroll in kindergarten that year.

Now, following a state law approved a year ago, that date has been pushed up to Sept. 1.

It means that if a child is born after Sept. 1 of that year, they must wait another school year to enroll.

But, parents can fill out forms to get a waiver of that rule, allowing them an early start to kindergarten, but certain guidelines and conditions must be met.

"Please note that completion of this form does not constitute registration nor request for a waiver," wrote Canton Schools.

"The requested information will support our planning and communication efforts regarding the anticipated Kindergarten registration, screening, and waiver process."
