Local police are asking motorists to be patient during a motorcycle cruise Sunday aimed at raising money for Special Olympics.

CANTON, CT — A fundraising event for Connecticut Special Olympics promises to deliver amazing visuals on local roadways courtesy of a massive motorcycle cruise this weekend.

But it also will create traffic disruptions in town.

As a result, Canton police are urging motorists to be patient during "The Dream Ride Experience" event Sunday, Aug. 27.

The event actually starts Friday in Farmington at the Farmington Polo Club, 162 Town Farm Road, with a car show, entertainment, food vendors and other festivities.

But on Saturday and Sunday, the festivities will exit Farmington and go onto area roadways as 300 classic cars and 1,800 motorcycle riders are expected for two separate "Dream Ride" cruises.

Canton, according to police, will be impacted on Sunday.

Police said the motorcycle cruise will be in Canton sometime between 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.

They will enter Canton via West Simsbury on Route 309, police said, taking a right onto Route 179 (North).

The group will continue through Barkhamsted and New Hartford, then return to Canton via Route 44 from New Hartford.

It will conclude its Canton swing onto Route 179 South (River Road), traveling through Collinsville and then Burlington, police said.

"Motorists should expect delays at intersections and along these routes," wrote Canton police. "Please use caution if driving in the area during this time period."
