Popular Canton Farm Market To Close At Month's End, May Reopen Somewhere Else

The iconic operation, known for its pies and apple cider doughnuts, will officially close Nov. 30, with its future not yet finalized.

CANTON, CT — This is the final month for a popular year-round farm market in Canton, but the operation's owners hope to reopen somewhere else next year.

The owners of theApplegate Farm Market, located at 220 Albany Turnpike, Canton, said the store will continue to operate through November, but it will close afterward.

"Unfortunately, the building we are in has been sold. Our lease will expire at the end of the year and will not be renewed. The new owners have other plans for the property," wrote the farm on social media.

A big priority is to make sure customers can still get their treasured, home-baked pies for Thanksgiving.

"We want to make sure all of our pie customers are able to enjoy our delicious pies for Thanksgiving," wrote Applegate Farm Market.

"We are taking orders once again this year. After that point, we will make the decision whether we will remain partially open as we begin our move out."

As for what comes next, the market's owners say they "have some opportunities and plans which we will share with you soon."

For now, though, market operations will cease over the winter "to make the transition to the new business plan."

One thing folks don't have to worry about is the market's apple cider doughnuts. They will be available no matter what when the market's business operation resumes.

Anyone having a gift card is asked to use it by the end of November.

"Thank you for all your support over the past years. We are looking forward to sharing our new venture with you," wrote the market.
