2 Cats Die From Flu: Cheshire Animal Hospital

The animal hospital is warning residents that cats can catch the flu from people.

CHESHIRE, CT — The VCA Cheshire Animal Hospital is warning residents about H1N1 flu in cats after two cats from the same house died from the flu last week. Officials warn that people can give flu to their cats.

“It's with a heavy heart that we are passing along a public service announcement for cat owners,” the animal hospital wrote in a post on Facebook. “We recently diagnosed influenza H1N1, unfortunately it was a severe form that proved fatal even with advanced in-hospital care. Cats can catch the flu from people. It is rare that cats catch the flu from their owners, and most cats can recover, some with only mild signs. But cats with underlying respiratory problems (like asthma) are prone to more complications, just like people.”

The animal hospital also included information about Cat Flu from PetMD, read it here.
