CHESHIRE, CT — If you’re like many of your Cheshire neighbors, you may spend a good part of the holiday season with your credit card in hand buying gifts for family and friends. Coming up soon is a chance to give back to the local community.
Giving Tuesday, which in 2024 falls on Dec. 3, is a day dedicated to supporting nonprofit and community groups. Since 2012, nonprofits worldwide have used the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to galvanize fundraising, rally volunteers and add momentum to their causes.

Here are five local nonprofits to consider getting behind on Giving Tuesday:
- Cheshire Community Food Pantry: Provides food, clothing, and other household necessities to those in need in Cheshire. It operates on a client-choice model, which allows clients to select their own groceries.
- Cheshire Land Trust: Dedicated to preserving open spaces and providing public access to nature in Cheshire, the Trust maintains several preserved areas and organizes community events.
- Cheshire Lions Club: Works to address health and humanitarian needs, particularly through eye care initiatives and other community service projects.
- The Town of Cheshire Public Library Foundation: Supports the library's mission by raising funds for programs, events, and other needs that are not covered by the library's regular budget.
- The Cheshire Volunteer Fire Department: Provides emergency response services and promotes fire safety education to the community.
