Anti-Smoking Campaign Hits Airwaves

The CDC launches new ads to prevent youth smoking.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has launched a new media campaign to prevent youth smoking and provide resources to quit smoking.

Last week the Surgeon General released a report on tobacco use among youth and young adults examining the social, environmental, and marketing influences that encourage people to begin smoking. The report indicates that mass media can be effective in preventing smoking among youth and adults.

“This proactive and powerful media effort can help save people from tobacco related death and disease,” said Sen. Richard Blumenthal, (D-CT). “Reaching young people through such ads has been proved to work— using media in the fight against tobacco can save dollars and lives," he said in a statement.
