Occupation:
Civil Engineer
Family:
Four children, John Ryan, Timothy, Kyle and Giovanna, all raised in Cheshire and two who still reside here. My fiancée, Sheila Fiordelisi lives and has business interests in our community.
Does anyone in your family work in politics or government?
No
Previous public office, appointive or elective:
Yes, I have been on the Cheshire council for two terms and I am seeking my third.
Why are you seeking this office?
To continue to serve a town which has been such an important part of my life and my family’s
The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is ____, and this is what I intend to do about it:
Fiscal oversight. I believe through improved communication among all involved parties and careful decision making, we will be able to maintain our quality community culture and excellent educational system while keeping tax increases to a minimum.
What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?
Business experience and non-partisan leadership skills. I built and led a team of over 190 engineers, landscape architects and environmental scientists throughout the eastern seaboard, with our primary office in Cheshire, while fostering a culture of respect, collaboration and giving back to our communities.
What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?
Keeping local politics local, focusing on what is best for the town of Cheshire. During this term, I have found more influence of state and national politics in our local discussions, which I find unhelpful.
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
1. Instrumental in keeping the Bartlem Park South project on budget and on schedule as part of the council’s oversight team.
2. Ensuring that the scope of the townwide traffic study being conducted at this time was expanded to include a comprehensive review of traffic congestion on our major thoroughfares and traffic safety on our local roads. The initial scope envisioned only focused on bicycle and pedestrian traffic objectives, which are critically important, but not brought broad enough to resolve our communities overall transportation challenges.
What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?
Try to always do what you believe is the right thing, somehow or another that will always provide the best outcome.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
I will continue to apply business principles to the management of our community, focusing on making the necessary choices to maintain our quality culture while minimizing our taxes, and I will attempt to do so in a non-partisan manner.
