Cheshire Election Results 2022: School Project Referendum, Close Races
Thousands of Cheshire residents cast their votes in the 2022 state and federal election in a number of key races.

CHESHIRE, CT — The town’s long-awaited $166 million school modernization project appeared to be approved by a referendum vote in Tuesday's election, according to the Record-Journal.
The Record-Journal reported unofficial results showed the referendum question being approved by a 5,652 to 4,011 vote, with absentee ballots and results from one precinct still needing to be counted.
In the state legislative races, Democrat Jan Hochadel was projected to beat Republican Joseph Vollano in the 13th Senatorial District, the Record-Journal reported.

Incumbent Republican state Sen. Rob Sampson won re-election to the 16th District by defeating Democratic challenger Chris Robertson, according to the Record-Journal.
The 16th District represents Prospect, Southington, Wolcott and parts of Cheshire and Waterbury.

In the 103rd House District, incumbent Democrat Liz Linehan declared victory over Republican Randy Raines.
"I'm happy to announce that even without all the numbers in, I can declare an overwhelming victory," Linehan wrote in a post on Facebook. "I am humbled by, and incredibly grateful for each and every one of you. Thank you all, I promise to work as hard as ever for all of us."
Incumbent Republican Lezlye Zupkus won re-election to a sixth term in the 89th House District by defeating Democrat Kevin O'Leary, according to MyCitizenNews.
Democrat Jack Fazzino won a "very close" race against Republican Lou Arata in the 83rd House District, according to the Connecticut Dems on Twitter.

(Original post) CHESHIRE, CT — The polls are closed in Cheshire and the vote counting is underway in several key federal and state races, including the office of governor, U.S. Senator, Congress, and local state representatives.
Cheshire residents also cast their votes on the town’s long-awaited $166 million school modernization project.
Eyes are on the gubernatorial race as incumbent Gov. Ned Lamont faces off against Republican nominee Bob Stefanowski and Independent Party candidate Rob Hotaling. Several other state constitutional positions are on the ballot, including treasurer, comptroller, attorney general and secretary of the state.
Connecticut also has a U.S. Senate seat up for grabs. Sen. Richard Blumenthal is seeking a third term, while Republican Leora Levy hopes to unseat him. All the state’s congressional seats are up for election as well.
All seats in the state General Assembly are up for election this year.
In addition to a state ballot question on early voting, Cheshire residents voted “yes” or “no” on the following local ballot questions:
1. Shall the Town of Cheshire appropriate $2,400,000 for the Road Improvement program and authorize the issue of $2,400.000 bonds and notes to finance the appropriation, the amount of such bonds and notes to be reduced by the amount of project grants received?
2. Shall the Town of Cheshire appropriate $166,600,000 for the design and construction of a new North End Elementary School and a new Norton Elementary School and authorize the issue of $166,600,000 bonds and notes to finance the appropriation, the amount of such bonds and notes to be reduced by the amount of project grants received?
Residents also voted on whether the state should allow early voting. The question on the ballot is: “Shall the Constitution of the State be amended to permit the General Assembly to provide for early voting?
