Obituaries for three Cheshire residents

Elizabeth Rittel, 92, passed away Sunday, May 13, 2012 at Elim Park Baptist Home in Cheshire. She was predeceased by her husband Joseph Rittel.

She was born October 9, 1919 in West Haven daughter of the late John and Julia (Tirka) Bonewicz.

Elizabeth was employed as a Bookkeeper at Kravitz Manufacturing Company. She was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church in Hamden prior to moving to Cheshire where she was a communicant at St. Thomas Becket Church. Elizabeth was a former member of the Laurel View Golf Association, and the Ridge Road Seniors.

She is survived by a son Gary and his wife Linda Rittel of Cheshire; two daughters Corinne and her husband Paul Camerato of Cheshire, and Betsy and her husband Jay Foster of Purcellville, VA; two sisters Irene North of Orange, and Loraine and her husband Don Nedza of Sanford, NC; eight grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren. Elizabeth was predeceased by two brothers and four sisters.

Arrangements- Elizabeth’s funeral will be held today, Tuesday May 15 at 10:15 a.m. from The Alderson Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 South Main St, to St. Thomas Becket Church, 435 North Brooksvale Road for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Entombment will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery, 280 Derby Ave, West Haven.

Calling hours will be held 9 A.M at the funeral home until the procession leaves for church. Donations in her name may be made to Elim Park Baptist Home, 150 Cook Hill Road, Cheshire, 06410 or to Masonic Care Hospice, 67 Masonic Avenue, Wallingford, CT 06492.

Joseph C. Perrotti, 81, passed away Saturday May 12, 2012 at the Hospital of St. Raphael. He was the husband of Barbara R. (Rizzo) Perrotti.

Mr. Perrotti was born January 10, 1931 in New Haven, the son of the late Chester and Blanche (Koslin) Perrotti. He was a WWII Army Veteran and was a longtime Cheshire resident. He was Teamsters Union Member.

Mr. Perrotti’s family would like to thank the Intensive Care staff of the Hospital of St. Raphael for their care and support.

Besides his wife of 45 years, Mr. Perrotti is survived by his brothers Bill and Chet as well as several nieces, nephews and friends.

Arrangements – A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday May 16, 10 a.m. at St. Bridget Church, 175 Main St. Friends are asked to meet directly at Church. Burial will follow in St. Bridget Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospital of St. Raphael 1450 Chapel St., New Haven, CT 06511. 

Richard Charles Leavitt, 86, passed away peacefully on Saturday May 12, 2012 at Elim Park Place. Born May 14, 1925 in Lynn Mass. Dick was a son of the late Frederick J. Leavitt and Agnes C. Mackey Leavitt and orphaned early in life. In his boyhood home of Nahant, MA, Dick forged many lifelong friendships and meet his beloved wife of 50 years, Mary Bradley Leavitt. Dick attended Lynn Classical High School, served as a pilot in the Army Air Force, and then attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His work as a mechanical engineer brought his growing family from Aruba to Cheshire in 1963. Dick retired from Cytec Industries after 25 years of service. Dick overcame many obstacles and dedicated his life to helping family and friends. He supported the work of the Mental Health Association of Connecticut, an agency dedicated to helping mentally ill adults live healthy and productive lives. Dick’s perseverance, compassion, and loyalty serve as a lasting example to his children and grandchildren. 

In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Bradley Leavitt, his son, Richard C. Leavitt Jr, three brothers, Miles, Thomas, and Jack Leavitt, and one sister, Mary Leavitt Sullivan. Dick is survived by sister Betty Guiney and her husband William of Boca Raton, FL, daughter, Carol Johnstone and her husband Michael, of Charlotte, NC, son, Robert Leavitt, of New Haven, CT, grandson, Peter Alstone and his wife Andrea and great grandson Salvador, of Arcata, CA and granddaughter Marguerite Lowe and her husband David of Charlottesville, VA.

The family would like to thank the staff of Elim Park Place- Residential Care Home, Franciscan Home Care, and his medical care providers for their service and compassionate support. 

Arrangements - Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at 10:00 at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Nahant, Mass. with a graveside service to follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Nahant.

A memorial service will be held at Elim Park Health Care, 140 Cook Hill Road, Cheshire, on Monday June 4, 2012 at 3:00. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mental Health Association of Connecticut, Richard Leavitt Memorial Fund, 969 W Main St # 3A, Waterbury, CT 06708.
