Bubble Torn During Storm, Cheshire Pool to Open Thursday

For the second time in a season, the all-weather bubble for the Cheshire Community Pool was torn while still attached to the building. The high winds last week tore the bubble where it fastens to the tall concrete wall, said Aquatics Director Sheila Adams. The damage was fixed on site, she said, but it delayed the installation of the bubble for several days. “It was going good until we had an issue with the storm and it got ripped,” she said.

The bubble is now inflated and a rigging crew will work today, (Wednesday) Adams said, to install the interior safety cables that cross over the pool.

The bubble was also torn in May when it was removed from the pool, Adams said. That repair was done by the manufacturer at no cost to the town, according to records.

The town pool is scheduled to open for the winter season on Thursday at 6 a.m. Adams said. The opening was delayed because the rigging crew that installs the cables had to be rescheduled when the bubble tore, she said.

“We can’t open without the interior wires,” Adams said. The lack of safety cables also kept pool employees from installing the swim lane lines, she added. 

The pool will open with a temporary certificate of occupancy until a dehumidifier is installed in a few weeks. The Cheshire Town Council approved the project on Monday in a special meeting. The equipment is required to bring the level of humidity down to comply with town and state building codes.
