Cheshire Race Breaks Record
The 1st Annual Cheshire Half Marathon breaks state record for number of runners.
More than 2,100 runners entered the 1st Annual Cheshire Half Marathon and 5K on Sunday, breaking a record set in 1994 by the Hartford Marathon, race organizers said.
Sam Montclair, 20, of Cheshire placed first the 5K with a time of 15:53. Lauren Carbone, 13, of Cheshire placed second in the 5K women's results with a time of in 21:52.
The half marathon route took in four miles of the Farmington Canal Rails to Trails pathway. The races ended at Cheshire High School.

"We are very proud to have put on such a great event in our first year," said Race Director William Costello. "The local running community joined together to raise tens of thousands of dollars for Team Special Needs and we couldn’t be happier with the turnout.”
Beneficiaries include Abilities Without Boundaries (formerly COCO), Cheshire Lions Club and Best Buddies CT. "The nonprofit organizations are dedicated to helping children and adults with developmental and physical disabilities," race organizers said in a statement. "All funds raised through Team Special Needs will go toward helping children and adults with special needs."
