Cheshire Resident Receives Teaching Honor
English teacher recognized by International Honor Society in Education

Nicole Martone of Cheshire, who teaches English at John F. Kennedy High School in Waterbury, is the latest recipient of the Teacher of Honor Award from Kappa Delta Pi, International Honor Society in Education, according to a statement.
“Great teachers change lives by inspiring students to recognize their gifts and to learn how to use them to pursue a worthy dream," Kappa Delta Pi International President Dr. Nathan Bond said in a statement. "Nicole Martone is one such teacher,” he added.
One of Martone's students, Dioneysia Stewart, said, “I appreciate the effort that Mrs. Martone puts into making the students of Kennedy High School feel good about getting good grades and being recognized!”

Martone’s students have benefitted from her efforts in advocating for supportive learning experiences, securing three Target Field Trip grants within the past four years to attend performances that make literature come to life.
She believes that taking students to attend plays such as Julius Caesar and Macbeth helps students appreciate and better understand otherwise complex literary genres. “Mrs. Martone is a teacher who makes it her personal business to be sure that all of her students get the understanding they need to succeed,” Stewart added. “She continually strives to help students develop an appreciation for the curriculum in which she teaches.”
