Cheshire Storm Update: State Of Emergency Declared
Officials update on the town's recovery from Tropical Storm Isaias, along with an updated list of road closures in Cheshire.

CHESHIRE, CT — Town Manager Sean Kimball has declared a state of emergency for the town of Cheshire due to the significant damage sustained from Tropical Storm Isaias.
In an update Thursday, officials said the latest information from Eversource indicates that 75 percent of the town remains without electricity.
“Public Works, police, and fire personnel are working around the clock, and are ready and available to assist Eversource crews,” officials wrote in a news release.

The Charging/WiFi Center at Highland School will be open again Aug. 7, from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. for use and charging of cell phones and laptops. Residents who need only WiFi can access the free public network at Cheshire High School in the parking lot on the south side of the building outside the auditorium entrance.

“For residents with wells and no power, there is water available behind the bathroom facilities at Bartlem Park for critical toilet flushing purposes,” according to the news release. “Residents can bring containers at any time and fill them as needed.”
The following roads were confirmed closed as of 7 p.m. Thursday:
- Avon Blvd, both at N. Brooksvale and Green Hill
- Braemar
- Coleman
- Harrison
- King
- Notch
- Vista Terrace
- Wiese at Academy
Other roads may be partially blocked; motorists are urged to use caution and avoid downed or low hanging wires.
- The library is still closed, but the Community Pool is open consistent with their COVID schedule.
- The White Oak Baptist Church at 120 Main Street has an outside charging station for cell phone and electronic devices, from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday (Aug. 7). Masks and social distancing required.
