Cheshire Students Explore the Edge of Space
Video of Cheshire Academy's weather balloon project.
The Cheshire Academy student weather balloon project team launches a video to document the experiment! The AP Physics students (all seniors) are:
- Brendan Carbone of Cheshire
- Danjin "Summer" Zhou
- Jake Schpero
- Yiman "Cindy" Cheung
- Difei "Dean" Chen
- Zhengjie "Bruce" Zhang
Carrie L. Moores, Marketing and Social Media Manager, writes:
The students set the balloon off in Winchester on May 3 and it took approximately two hours for it to ascend into space. At 120,000 feet, the weather balloon burst (as planned!) and entered a period of free-fall until a parachute deployed, and returned to earth after 25 minutes of descending time. The weather balloon platform ended up on the property of Haddam Killingworth Middle School in Killingworth — about 55 miles away from the launch site! An arborist helped retrieve the platform from the tops of the trees."
