Cheshire to Host "Day of Puppetry"

The Connecticut Guild of Puppetry to present free performance and workshops.

The guild will hold their "Annual Day of Puppetry" at Cheshire's Artsplace on April 22 in partnership with the Cheshire Performing and Fine Arts Committee.

The event begins at 2 p.m. with a free performance of  “Jack Tuesday – A Fairytale Investigator,” by the Lionheart Puppets. 

Three free workshops (with a small materials fee), will then be held simultaneously from 3 - 4 p.m.

  • Puppeteer Sharon Murphy Boski who will provide a hands-on "Shadow Puppet" workshop. This is recommended for ages 4 and up to be accompanied by a parent if the child is not old enough to use scissors. Cost is $2.00
  • Artsplace's own felting instructor, Robin McCahill, will lead a Jester Stick workshop using felting techniques. This is recommended for ages 5 and up. Children should be old enough to use a needle. Cost is $5.00   
  • Puppeteer Rolande Duprey will lead a rod puppet workshop for ages 11 and up. This is a more detailed puppet workshop and participants should be able to handle a more rapid and focused project. Cost is $3.00.

Artsplace Director Joan Pilarczyk said the workshops and performance will be held in memory of Sterling Jewett of Cheshire who was a founding member of the puppet guild.
