Former state Democratic Rep. John "Corky" Mazurek of Wolcott announced this week that he will challenge Republican Sen. Joe Markley of Plantsville for the 16th District seat which covers a portion of Cheshire, Southington, Waterbury and all of Wolcott. <a href="http://www.myrecordjournal.com/local/article_69fad8f6-996d-11e1-ae07-0019bb2963f4.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">The Meriden Record-Journal reports</a> that Mazurek said he's entering the race and will seek to qualify for funding from the Citizen's Election Fund.  Markley returned to state politics after a 24-year absence after losing his seat in the late 80s. He regained office in 2010.
