More Animals Discovered In Cheshire Hoarding Case: Police
Six more cats have been captured with traps at the property, according to police.
CHESHIRE, CT — An additional six cats have been rescued from an animal hoarding situation on Cook Hill Road, police said.
Police Lt. Jeffrey Sutherland said traps were left on the property to capture the cats.
On Aug. 1, police and animal control officials executed a search and seizure warrant at 715 Cook Hill Rd. At the time, they removed 13 cats and one dog.

Police said the homeowner has been cooperating with their investigation.
The Cheshire Animal Control Facility doesn’t have room for all of the animals, so some have been temporarily placed at public and private animal control facilities statewide, according to Sutherland.

As of Thursday, 12 of the cats remained at the Cheshire Animal Control facility. Police said all of the animals have received veterinary assessment and care.
The investigation is ongoing, according to police.
A construction project at the animal control facility is paused because of the influx of animals. It is not expected to start again until permanent placements are found, police said.
The community and animal rights advocates have raised concerns in the past about prolonged housing of seized animals in Cheshire.
Police said there have been “many changes,” since and prior to, a consent order from the state Department of Agriculture. These are documented in reports accessible on the town’s Animal Control webpage. Examples include building upgrades, intake/impound reports, daily checklists, and weekly wellness reports.
