New Principal Announced At Cheshire High School

The Cheshire Board of Education unanimously approved the appointment at Thursday's meeting.

CHESHIRE, CT — The Cheshire Board of Education unanimously approved Kevin J. Hanlon as the new principal of Cheshire High School at Thursday’s meeting.

Since 2019, Hanlon has served as the K-8 Curriculum Coordinator for Cheshire Public Schools, where he “played a key role in curriculum development, professional learning, and instructional leadership,” according to a news release. “His work in coordinating interventions, refining assessment systems, and supporting multilingual learners has made a significant impact on student success.”

Hanlon has been serving as the Interim Principal and K-8 curriculum coordinator since mid-January. He will officially begin his new role on Monday, April 21.

“We are thrilled to welcome Kevin as the new leader of Cheshire High School,” Superintendent of Schools Jeffrey Solan said. “His deep commitment to continuous improvement, instructional excellence, and fostering a positive school culture makes him the ideal choice to guide Cheshire High into the future.”

Hanlon brings more than two decades of experience in education, with a “distinguished career in school and district leadership, curriculum development, and student-centered learning initiatives,” according to the news release.

Before joining Cheshire Public Schools, Hanlon was the principal of Canton Intermediate School and Hebron Elementary School—where he led Hebron Elementary to earn National Blue Ribbon School recognition in 2010. He has also held administrative roles in Farmington and Winchester, Connecticut over the course of his career.

Hanlon holds a Sixth-Year Degree in Educational Leadership and an Executive Leadership Program certification from the University of Connecticut, as well as a Master of Education from Lehigh University. He is also a proud graduate of Penn State.

“I am honored to join the incredible team at Cheshire High School and excited to work alongside students, educators, and families who are deeply invested in its success,” Hanlon said. “Together, we will build on the school’s strong foundation of academic excellence and the many opportunities that empower students to learn, lead, and grow.”
