Obituary: Ernestine Ford, 85, Of Cheshire

Ernestine was a stay-at-home mom, and later in life pursued a career in retail.

CHESHIRE, CT — (From Alderson-Ford Funeral Home): Ernestine Ford, 85, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2024, at Mid-State Medical Center, surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late John (Jack) Ford and mother of the late Lisa Caputo, her beloved daughter.

Ernestine was born July 17, 1938, daughter of the late Otto Krampitz and Katherine (Ferro) Colapinto. Ernestine was a stay-at-home mom, and later in life pursued a career in retail.

A Cheshire resident for 58 years, she enjoyed the beach (Mixville and Point Judith), reading saucy novels, crossword puzzles, cooking and especially spending time with her grandchildren and family.

Ernestine is survived by her daughter, Marcey Ford of Melrose MA; cherished grandson Robert John Caputo of Boston, and granddaughter Grace Mary Caputo of Chicago; son in law Robert (Bob) Caputo of Stratham, NH; sisters Catherine Marcantonio (Chick) of Meriden, CT, and Sharon Kulas (Paul) of Southington, CT; and brother Richard Krampitz (Gerry) of Southington CT. She also leaves many nieces, nephew, and close friends.

In addition to her husband of 60 years, she was predeceased by her brothers, Michael Krampitz and Edward (Butch) Christensen, and her sisters, Ruth Cafano and Veronica Soto.

We would like to thank Midstate Medical Center, Pavilion E staff, for their loving care of Mom, Mimi, Aunt Ern, and Ern.

Arrangements: Friends may greet her family on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, from 12 noon until 1:30 p.m. at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 South Main Street. A memorial service for Ernestine will be held immediately following the visitation, at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be held at the convenience of her family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions, in her name, can be made to Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Boston.
