[UPDATE] Personnel Hearing for Ram Coach Ecke

A personnel hearing for Cheshire High School football coach Mark Ecke will be held soon, school officals say, in the meantime he remains suspended from his coaching duties. 

Board of Education Chairman Gerald Brittingham said he wouldn't comment further on personnel issues, but an article from ESPN, notes that Ecke was first asked to resign, but refused, and was then placed on suspension.

Ecke's suspension was for conduct issues that occured during a recent lacrosse game in Glastonbury according to a report in the New Haven Register.

"He's suspended until the panel decides. They have 10 days to deliberate," Brittingham said. The date for the hearing hasn't been announced.

The panel for the personnel hearing will consist of at least four members of the school board, Brittingham said. "It's a well-thought out process. Essentially, both sides present their positions," he said.

Ecke is allowed to choose whether the hearing will be held in public or private. He could not be reached for comment about his suspension which apparently began on May 10 or 11.

Ecke is paid a stipend for his coaching duties, Brittingham said, but under state law, he has the same right to a hearing as a full-time employee. 

The hearing will likely be held at the Board of Education central offices in Humiston School, Brittingham said.
