The Cheshire Gridiron Club took the unusual step of buying a full-page ad in this week's Cheshire Herald to publicly denounce comments made by Town Council Chairman Tim Slocum concerning the condition of the boys locker room at Cheshire High School.

The ad directs readers to Cheshire Patch where members of the athletic community posted a number of photos of the boys locker room which the Gridiron Club said "poses a health risk to our children."
"The Cheshire High School Football Program takes great offense to your comments and biases," the ad directed at Slocum said. "To make a blanket statement that football players have a lack of self control and have deliberately removed ceiling tiles and locker doors is slanderous," the ad reads.

"The deplorable condition of the locker room can no longer be ignored and we urge our officials to act expeditiously" the ad concludes.
Slocum was called to task for comments he made in to former following the April 10 Town Council meeting. At that meeting, several parents and supporters urged the council to move ahead with the bidding process for the renovation project of the locker room.
Action on the request for bids was tabled at the council's March meeting, which brought a crowd of parents to the April 10 meeting who expressed their concerns about the delay.
, stating that his words were "poorly chosen."
Bowing to public pressure, the council has called a special meeting on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. to discuss the issue. "We may be able to go forward on a different tract," Slocum said recently.
