[UPDATE] Company Pays $8.2 Million for Cheshire Site

In a coup for economic development in Cheshire, an aerospace company that had planned to move most of operations to Plainville will now consolidate all of its locations to the former Pratt & Whitney site on Knotter Drive. 

EDAC Technologies Corporation of Farmington said in a statement that it purchased the Pratt & Whitney facility from United Technologies Corporation for $8.2 million. (P&W is a subsidiary of UTC). It will relocate to Cheshire all of its operations in six separate buildings in Farmington and Newington, the company said. The former P&W site has 293,000 square feet of manufacturing space on 50 acres. 

EDAC is an aerospace company that designs, manufactures and services components.  "We reacted quickly to the opportunity to purchase UTC's Pratt & Whitney Cheshire facility, which is world class in every respect," Dominick A. Pagano, EDAC's president and chief executive officer, said in a statement.

"..The significantly larger Cheshire facility is already equipped with the advanced manufacturing infrastructure to support our type of operations and projected future growth," Pagano added. He said EDAC plans to begin its integration plan immediately, with completion slated for the end of 2013.

The state legislature in December allowed Cheshire to market the former Pratt & Whitney facility as a Defense (Enterprise) Zone. This designation provides certain tax abatement incentives for five years.
